The mission of the Climate Cirisis Coaliton of the Twin Cities is to build a mass movement to stop global warming and mitigate climate change in order to prevent ecological disaster. We are for weaning our society completely off of fossil fuels. We support the following demands: Join the World by Ratifying the Kyoto Protocol. Develop & Export Clean, Safe, Non-Nuclear, Renewable Energy Alternatives in the Form of Wind & Solar Power. Launch No More Wars for Oil. End Government Subsidies for Oil, Gas, Coal & Nuclear Corporations. Tax Corporate Polluters, Not Consumers, and Use the Funds to Clean Up the Environment. Dramatically Strengthen Energy Conservation & Fuel Efficiency Standards. Retool the Transport Industry & Build Clean, Safe, Efficient Mass Transit Systems. Put the Utility Companies Under Public Ownership. Implement a Just Transition for Workers, Indigenous Communities & Others Most Affected by a Change to Clean Energy With No Loss In Jobs. Conserve & Restore our Wetlands & Forests. Halt the Digging of Peat. Hands Off the Big Bog in Northern Minnesota. Reduce, Reuse & Recycle at the Point of Production. Make Peace & End the War on Nature.
Ongoing education about the threat of global warming & the climate change that is currently underway. We are planning a picket line at the Federal Building in Minneapolis to protest government inaction on November 4th during the next UN Climate Conference to be held in Nairobi, Kenya. We are also organizing a Regional Farmer/Labor Confernce on sustainability & global warming in St. Paul, Minnesota in January, 2007 to be held at the union hall of UAW 879.
Location(s)
Grassroots activists, youth, workers, trade unionists, small family farmers, communities of the oppressed nationalities, people who work for a living.
In addition to having a literature table, and getting signatures for the People's Ratification of the Kyoto Protocol, we hope to hold a meeting with other climate crisis activists to network & strategize and build participation in the regional farmer/labor conference on sustainability & global warming.
